Although these pledges may not be very effective, this study says nothing about abstinence education. Also, they should really include the data, which shows there is a small advantage by pledgers (in raw data). Here is a link:

The parents that make their teens “pledge abstinence” need to get their heads examined once they pull them out of the sand.

Want to make sure your kid doesn’t become a teen parent, or worse, an STD statistic, then TALK to them. Make sure they know how to use condoms. Make sure they know to ALWAYS use condoms.

A virginity pledge is just wishful thinking. It is hoping that your kid doesn’t have the same desires that you did as a kid.

Yeah, I’m sure that will happen…
