Well there's a definite link between RBD and neurological disease, but that doesn't do a whole lot to help find a treatment for people who currently have certain RBD symptoms. If a person at risk were to make sure they get good sleep every day, it's possible their symptoms might simply vanish right? If I were a sleep researcher, I'd probably prescribe sleeping pills and/or CPAP machines to a group under study and see if that helped both their sleep and any RBD events.
